How to connect to a Remote Desktop on Windows
By default, all Windows PCs and Windows Servers contain the Remote Desktop Connection tool. So if you want to connect via RDP, you can use this tool.
The first step is to find out your IP address and the RD gateway address. You can google it, just type this, What’s my IP?
- Open the Remote Desktop Connection. To do this, click the search icon and search Remote Desktop Connection.
- Type the IP address or hostname of your Windows Remote Desktop in the Computer text box, then press Show Options.
- Type the username you’ll use to connect to your Windows Remote Desktop in the User name box.
- You can check the resolution of the display and confirm it.
- By pressing Local Resources > More, you can confirm the peripherals that you intend to share with your Windows Remote Desktop. This will allow you to share your local printer with the remote PC, for instance.
- Windows will check for the quality of the connection. You can change the connection speed manually by selecting the Experience option.
- Remote Desktop Gateways are used on certain enterprise networks. The option can be set by clicking on Advanced > Settings.
- Click Connect when ready. You may have to press Yes to be warned about the identity of the connection.
